ArmInfo. The National Council of the Slovak Republic has unanimously adopted a resolution on Nagorno-Karabakh.
As the press service of the Armenian Embassy in Austria informed ArmInfo, the resolution initiated by the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Marian Kery (SMER - SD Party), was supported by 120 deputies, with no abstention or opposition.
The resolution strongly condemns the killing of civilians, the destruction of civilian infrastructure, cultural and religious monuments and structures, and expresses concern about the military involvement of third countries in the conflict and their destabilizing role. It is emphasized that the achievement of long-term peace and the process of determining the future legal status of Nagorno-Karabakh should be carried out under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs. It is deeply concerned that prisoners of war and other forcibly detained persons, including civilians, have not been released in accordance with international humanitarian law, in particular the provisions of the Geneva Convention of 1949 (III).
The resolution calls on the Government of the Slovak Republic, the European Union and international organizations to ensure that all allegations of war crimes, including the use of cluster munitions, are properly investigated, that all prisoners of war and civilians are immediately released, and that international humanitarian organizations are granted access to Nagorno-Karabakh without restrictions.
The Armenian Embassy also recalled that this is the second resolution adopted by the Slovak Parliament on the last 44-day war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Nagorno-Karabakh. The first resolution was adopted on October 22, 2020 and dealt with the ongoing conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.
