ArmInfo.Yerevan fully fulfilled its humanitarian obligations under the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020. Ara Aivazian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the republic, stated this on March 29 at a meeting of the Standing Parliamentary Committee on European Integration.
So, answering the question by Naira Zohrabyan, MP from the "Prosperous Armenia" party, whether there are any Azerbaijani prisoners in Armenia, and if not, what leverage does the official Yerevan have in order to force Azerbaijan to return to a constructive track and send 188 Armenian prisoners, the minister said in particular:
"You have just indicated the number of Armenian prisoners, but in fact this is not a real number. Yes, this figure was announced by the European Court of Human Rights. The court demanded information on such a number of people. However, the number of prisoners is somewhat different from this data, but I will not voice it now. "
At the same time, he expressed his conviction that as a result of international pressure, Azerbaijan understood that the return of prisoners would be an important step towards creating an atmosphere of trust. At the same time, at a meeting of the permanent parliamentary committee on foreign affairs, when asked to assess Russian-Turkish relations, Aivazian stated that cooperation between Turkey and Russia is a matter of two states.
He added that Armenia is closely following the development of relations between Russia and Turkey. "We are confident that our strategic ally, as a guarantor of Armenia's security, will fulfill its obligations if necessary," the Foreign Minister said. Aivazian disagrees with claims that Armenia and its security are completely dependent on Russia. "However, you need to understand that the war in Karabakh was stopped precisely thanks to the efforts of Russia. Some may not like this, but this is a fact. Otherwise, we would have had a completely different situation," summed up the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry.
