ArmInfo. In many cases, for objective reasons, Armenia could not ensure the fulfillment of its interests in the region, and this was facilitated by the planned and consistent policy of Turkey and Azerbaijan on the blockade.
This was stated by Armenian Foreign Minister Ara Ayvazyan at an extraordinary meeting of the Foreign relations commission of the Armenian parliament. At the same time, he believes that today a new, more complex situation has developed in the region. "We should have a vector of what kind of country we want to see, what kind of society and what opportunities we have. Despite the fact that the situation in the region continues to be difficult, we still need to have this vector of development, which will be implemented through daily hard work, " Ayvazyan said, agreeing that today there is a transformation of the regional situation, due to a tangible violation of the balance of power from a global point of view.
The Minister pointed out the need for a detailed study of their own capabilities and possible challenges, and based on this already building relationships with different actors, while not forgetting about the element of security.
According to the Armenian Foreign Minister, it is necessary to build its foreign policy in such a way that it does not turn into a platform for a clash of interests. "It is necessary to build our relations in such a way that Armenia and the region do not become a point of conflict of conflicting interests," Ayvazyan said. At the same time, he stated that the latest war in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone once again demonstrated the evidence of the thesis that Yerevan has been promoting for many years, and which for some reason was forgotten, namely, that this is not just a territorial dispute between Armenia and Azerbaijan. "We are talking about preventing a new genocidal project. And now, when many international organizations and states see how actions are being carried out in the territories that have come under the control of Azerbaijan to destroy the Armenian historical and cultural heritage, the Armenian trace, falsified data, what inhumane treatment our prisoners are subjected to - they are growing convinced that Artsakh cannot be part of Azerbaijan. They come to understand that Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan is Artsakh without Armenians, " the minister stated.
At the same time, Ayvazyan once again stressed that the war in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone is over, but the conflict is not resolved. According to him, this is stated not only by the Armenian side, but also by the international community, the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, and international organizations. "In order to ensure regional peace and security, it is necessary to take into account such an element as the status of Artsakh, which should be determined through self-determination based on the will of the people of Nagorno - Karabakh," he said, adding that achieving this goal is a long and complex process, including the formation of an atmosphere of trust between the parties.
The Armenian Foreign Minister believes that such a positive step can be the immediate return of Armenian prisoners of war and civilians held by Azerbaijan.
