ArmInfo.Armenia took over the chairmanship of the OSCE Forum for Security Cooperation.
As reported by the press service of the RA MFA, on March 23 the final session of the forum was held under the American chairmanship, during which the United States handed over to Armenia the four-month chairmanship of the OSCE Forum for Security Cooperation.
Taking the chairmanship, Armenia's Permanent Representative to the OSCE Armen Papikyan thanked the US chairmanship in the Forum for the efforts and cooperation.
Papikyan noted that ensuring peace and security in the OSCE area of responsibility requires joint efforts, constructive interaction and dialogue, setting as a benchmark the unswerving fulfillment of the Organization's commitments.
Speaking about the priorities of the Armenian chairmanship in the Forum, Papikyan highlighted the importance of arms control, cooperation with other regional security organizations, consistent implementation of security measures to build confidence, and military-political OSCE commitments. In this context, he stressed that a violation of the commitments undertaken within the OSCE leads to a violation of the international security system, a decrease in predictability and transparency in the military sphere, which, in turn, directly jeopardizes human rights, in particular the right to life. It was emphasized that in order to counter such challenges, it is necessary to fully and effectively use the potential of the OSCE structures.
Armenia will chair the OSCE Forum from April to August 2021.
