Kent: USA is looking for ways to support closer cooperation between  the countries of the South Caucasus while maintaining their  sovereignty

ArmInfo.Washington believes that the best agreements to ensure regional security in the South Caucasus are solved with the organization that was created for this,  and this is the OSCE. This was stated by the Deputy Assistant  Secretary of State for the European and Eurasian Affairs  Mr. George  Kent, speaking to the subcommittee of the Senate on International  Relations.  

According to Turan, a high-ranking representative of the  US State Department noted that for the last quarter of the century, a  framework was created to solve security issues in the South Caucasus,  solving conflicts in Nagorno-Karabakh, Abkhazia and South Ossetia -  this is the OSCE.

"This is a suitable structure in which all participating countries  are members and share the commitment to uniform values ??and  processes. However, the regional platform 3 + 3, proposed by Russia,"  is a great departure from these values, "said Kent.

"This is selectively and based on a regional infrastructure ...   Georgians are concerned that some of the projects that Russians  offered, actually bypass Georgia - this is a railway and automobile  infrastructure. Similarly, the Nord Stream and Turkish Flow gas  pipelines bypass Ukraine. This is a threat that Georgia sees in this  platform, "he added.

Kent made it clear that the deployment of Russian troops as  peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh means that Russia has positions in  all three countries of the South Caucasus.

Turkish and Russian troops are now jointly headed by the Observation  Center for the Termination of Fire in Azerbaijan.

According to Kent, the Regional Platform 3 + 3, proposed by Russia,  Turkey and Iran, .

"Currently, we study the ways with which the United States can  support closer cooperation between the countries of the South  Caucasus, while maintaining their sovereignty and freedom of action,"  he added.  Washington believes that efforts to strengthen the Western  orientation of Georgia are especially important after last year's  intensive hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh.
