ArmInfo. On March 2, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan held a meeting with the US Ambassador to Armenia Lynne Tracy and the Director of the USAID Office in Armenia David Hoffman.
Welcoming the Ambassador, Ararat Mirzoyan presented the situation after the adoption of the trilateral ceasefire statement and stressed that the issue of returning prisoners of war and civilians to their homeland is of paramount importance for the Armenian side. The Speaker of the Parliament expressed the hope that the United States will be more actively involved in an early settlement of this issue. Mirzoyan also noted that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict cannot be considered settled until the status of Nagorno-Karabakh is resolved on the basis of the principle of self-determination of peoples.
In turn, Lynne Tracy noted that the American side is making efforts to facilitate the return of Armenian prisoners of war.
David Hoffman introduced to the Speaker the Agency's programs in various areas, including in programs aimed at strengthening the capacity of parliament.
During the conversation, the parties discussed issues related to the Armenian-American agenda, and also stressed the importance of easing the internal political situation in Armenia.
