ArmInfo. Turkey strongly condemns the attempted coup in Armenia. This was stated by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu at a joint press conference with Hungarian Foreign and Foreign Trade Minister Peter Szijjarto on Thursday in Budapest.
Cavusoglu answered the journalists' question about the events in Armenia, where the General Staff of the Armed Forces demanded the resignation of the country's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The head of the Turkish diplomacy stressed that Ankara is against attempts to forcibly seize power in any country in the world. This also applies to the events in Armenia.
"It is unacceptable for the military to overthrow a democratically elected government. We strongly condemn not only the attempted coups, but the very calls for the resignation of the elected government, "said Cavusoglu, quoted by Anadolu.
As ArmInfo previously reported, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia issued a statement today, in which it demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and warned him against using force against his people. The statement was signed by over 40 high-ranking officers.
Reacting to the statement of the General Staff, Pashinyan called on his supporters to gather in Republic Square, and called the actions of the General Staff an unsuccessful attempt of a military coup. He also stated that he dismissed the head of the General Staff Onik Gasparyan.
