ArmInfo. One hundred members of Congress from more than twenty US states signed a letter from the bipartisan congressmen's group on Armenian issues calling on the Joe Biden administration to support Artsakh and Armenia.
According to the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA), the letter addressed to the Secretary of State and Defense Minister emphasizes the seriousness of the regional crisis caused by the six-week ruthless aggression of Azerbaijan and Turkey against Artsakh last fall, and suggests urgent measures in the following areas:
- Provision of emergency assistance from the United States, which will allow the people of Artsakh to rebuild their communities and return to natural life without fear of further bloodshed;
- Renewed US involvement in the search for a lasting regional settlement based on a fundamental right to self-determination that protects the security of Artsakh and helps prevent a new war from breaking out;
- Recognition by the United States of the right to self-determination of the people of Artsakh and its role as a legitimate negotiating party in resolving this conflict;
- Taking a leading position in efforts to ensure the immediate release of Armenian prisoners;
- Accountability of the United States, including on the issue of imposing sanctions against high-ranking leaders of Azerbaijan and Turkey, the suspension of American aid to Baku and the resumption of the functioning of Amendment 907 (Law on the Support of Freedom);
- US support for the economic development of Armenia and assistance to Armenians displaced as a result of Azerbaijan's aggression;
- Recognition of the Armenian Genocide by President Biden. ANCA expressed their unconditional support for this initiative.
