ArmInfo. The situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in the Syunik region must be brought under control. First of all, through and within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group. A similar opinion was expressed to ArmInfo by the head of the Caucasus Department of the Institute of CIS Countries, a military expert Vladimir Evseev.
"Within the framework of the MG, it is necessary to put pressure on Baku in order to create international mechanisms of investigation and prevent any incidents at the border. Another necessary step is the deployment of technical means of control. Only in this case it will be possible to determine the culprit of the violation of the ceasefire regime. like France and the United States, they should also put pressure on Baku in this matter, "he stressed.
Evseev did not rule out the possibility, if the need arises, of additional deployment of the border troops of the Russian Federation on this section of the border. According to him, Russia may well take control of the entire border of Armenia with Azerbaijan, just as it does on the border with Turkey. According to the expert, Yerevan may well raise this issue with Moscow.
According to the expert, the troubled situation in Syunik demonstrates that despite the acquisition of territories in Artsakh, Azerbaijan continues to remain in the status of a provocateur and violator of international law. And the sooner Yerevan succeeds in proving this, the easier it will become possible to apply international pressure against Baku. Another important task, according to the military expert, is to overcome the state of confusion reigning in the Armenian Defense Ministry following the recent war. In Yevseyev's opinion, the Armenian colleagues should take into account the Russian experience of overcoming a similar situation following the unsuccessful first Chechen campaign for Moscow. He noted that Armenia may well do this on its own, but has the right to rely on the help of an ally in this matter. "You just need to make the right decisions in the direction of strengthening the Armed Forces, the borders of Armenia and security in general. There is no need to think about the security of the Artsakh people - it is provided by the Russian peacekeepers. Armenia needs to think about protecting the borders from Azerbaijan and Turkey. All this requires the Armenian Defense Ministry implementation of a whole range of measures. And Russia is ready to help Armenia in all this, " - summed up Evseev.
