ArmInfo. Armenian Foreign Minister Ara Ayvazyan at a meeting with a delegation led by British Foreign Minister Wendy Morton, Minister of State for European Neighborhood and America, expressed his conviction that this visit is a good opportunity to consider the bilateral cooperation agenda and outline joint steps to enrich it. The press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry told ArmInfo about this.
"We appreciate the cooperation established between Armenia and Great Britain. We hope that by joint efforts we will be able to give a new impetus to the Armenian-British bilateral agenda," Ayvazyan added. The interlocutors exchanged views on the prospects for expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest, highlighting information technology, creative education, renewable energy sources, and tourism as priority areas.
During the meeting, issues of regional security and stability were also touched upon.
"The current situation in our region is the result of the use of force by Azerbaijan with the direct participation of Turkey. As you correctly noted in your speech in the House of Commons on November 8, this cannot be considered a solution to the conflict. Only a political negotiated settlement that respects the rights of all paves the way for elimination causes and consequences of the war, can bring stability, lasting peace and, finally, reconciliation in the South Caucasus region. The basis of the settlement of the Karabakh conflict is the right of the people of Artsakh to self-determination. Azerbaijan's attempt to forcibly suppress the right to self-determination, accompanied by war crimes, is not only a violation of rights person, but also a serious constant threat to regional security, "Ayvazyan said in this regard.
In the context of resolving humanitarian issues caused by Azerbaijan's aggression against Artsakh, the RA Foreign Minister drew the interlocutor's attention to Baku's policy of taking Armenian prisoners of war and civilians, including women, hostage. He noted that this is a challenge not only for Armenia, but also for all those who faithfully and consistently fight for human rights in the international arena.
