ArmInfo. What happened in the spring of 2018 in Armenia was essentially an anti-Karabakh movement. The third president of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, stated this in an interview with Armnews TV channel.
According to him, the processes of spring 2018 in Armenia and the situation in the zone of the Karabakh conflict in autumn 2020 have a direct relationship.
"It was not only an anti-Karabakh movement, but directed against the Karabakh people," Sargsyan said. Speaking about the events of the spring of 2018 in Armenia, the third President of the Republic of Armenia stated that a situation had developed in the country in which he preferred to transfer power without upheavals.
At the same time, Sargsyan stressed that being then the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, he transferred power not to Nikol Pashinyan, but to Deputy Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan. "There is such a situation that I am proceeding from geopolitical realities and adhering to the conviction that if the main negotiator on Karabakh changes, then processes that would become fateful for our country would take place. It is for this reason that I agreed to be re-elected as Prime Minister, "the third president of Armenia said, adding that no one expected that this movement would receive such a scale and such a course. According to him, there were no preconditions that the movement would teach such power. Touching upon speculations that Nikol Pashinyan is his project, Sargsyan stated that in his life he had only come into contact with the "future capitulator" three times in any way.
"The future capitulator first came into my field of vision at the end of 1993, when I was serving as Minister of Defense for several months, and after our many successes, we had some problems at the front. And these problems with various manipulations, materials that do not correspond to reality, and speculations tried to hurt me and my fighting friends, '' Sargsyan said, adding that the second meeting took place in the late 1990s in court, and for the third time at the Marriott Hotel in April 2018 of the year.
To clarify what he meant by his expression "Nikol was right, I was wrong", Sargsyan noted that he had edited his appeal to the people three times and when he considered it finally ready, he summoned Karen Karapetyan and asked him if he was ready to take himself responsible for governing the country, to which he received an affirmative answer from the latter.
The third president of Armenia stressed that an agreement was reached on his resignation, and not on the transfer of power to these forces.
