ArmInfo.Everything possible is being done for the speedy return of Armenian prisoners of war who fell under the jurisdiction of Azerbaijan. Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergei Kopyrkin stated this on February 8 in an interview with journalists on the sidelines of the scientific conference "Participation of Armenians in World War II" at YSPU.
According to him, maybe the issue is not progressing as quickly as we would like, but everything is being done to resolve it as soon as possible. "The maximum is being done to resolve this issue. It is in the center of attention of the Russian President, Defense Minister and Foreign Minister. I am sure the issue will be resolved." the Russian diplomat said.
Touching upon the visit of the second RA President Robert Kocharyan to Russia and a possible meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, the Ambassador noted that he had no information on this issue.
"As for Kocharyan's return to big politics, the Armenian people should evaluate this step, including through possible elections," Kopyrkin said.
Clarifying the expediency of holding early elections in the republic, the Ambassador noted that this should be decided by the authorities and political forces of Armenia. "This is an internal affair of Armenia. I hope that the right decision will be made, taking into account the difficult situation, which Armenia faces," the diplomat said.
At the same time, giving an overall assessment of the Armenian-Russian relations, he noted that they are developing in all directions. " I assess the level of the Armenian-Russian cooperation positive, in general. Close and trusting interaction has been established in different areas. The relations are deepening and expanding, "he said, recalling that the Armenian-Russian relations do not depend on the political situation, and they will continue to develop in the mainstream of strategic partnership and allied interaction.
