ArmInfo. An extraordinary sitting of the National Assembly started on February 3. His agenda includes only 2 issues - amendments to the law "On social assistance" and the Judicial Code.
The government's initiative angered opposition representatives. In particular, MP from the "Enlightened Armenia" faction Taron Simonyan expressed bewilderment at the relevance of today's agenda. In his opinion, it would be understandable if the government introduced a draft law on the de-occupation of the occupied territories, or amendments to the law "On weapons", but all this is not happening. All this, according to the deputy, indicates that the government cannot figure out the priority of the bills. Taron Simonyan stressed that taking into account the geopolitical realities and the development of regional processes, there is a need to discuss a completely different agenda. "I am not against the judicial and legal reform, and if the Cabinet of Ministers made this proposal a year ago, everything was clear and obvious, but today everything has changed," the deputy said. In his words, one gets the impression that until September 27 last year, Armenia was an obstacle to regional cooperation and the development of trade and economic relations. After the hostilities, Simonyan continued, many, including the deputies present in the conference room, consider the development of these relations possible. "Are we the guarantor of peace and security in the region? Azerbaijan has been and remains the main guarantor of regional security and peace, because it is a terrorist state carrying out war crimes. All its military-political leadership is a collection of international terrorism. And after all this, Yerevan sounds appeals for peace and cooperation, "the deputy noted. Taron Simonyan did not see a national approach in the behavior of the ruling majority. None of the members of the government, including the Prime Minister, travels to Stepanakert to understand what is happening there. The President of Azerbaijan will make a working trip to the occupied city of Shushi, and the RA Prime Minister is not going to the capital of Karabakh. During the three months that elapsed after the war, not a single house was built in Artsakh with the financing of Armenia. "Everyone practically washed their hands, forgetting who is the guarantor of the security of the people of Artsakh," - stated the MP, calling on the ruling majority and the government to change the unacceptable behavior towards the Republic of Artsakh.
Ani Samonyan, another deputy from the Enlightened Armenia faction, adheres to a similar point of view, who noted that the government "got enough" for parliament to hold extraordinary sessions with a spontaneous agenda.
RA Justice Minister Rustam Badasyan disagreed with these arguments. He noticed that there are different priorities. For 1.5 years, there have been discussions on judicial and legal reform aimed at increasing public confidence in the judicial system and improving the quality of its work. Meanwhile, the congestion of the courts, which sit for a long time, causes discontent among the public and the deputies. There are often accusations as to why the government is not taking appropriate action. The minister recalled that there is a strategy for reforming the judicial system and a program of measures for its implementation. The government of the country, concluded Rustam Badasyan, clearly follows the provisions of this Strategy.
