ArmInfo. The deputy head of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev does not consider cooperation between Moscow and Ankara in Nagorno-Karabakh an element of a long-term policy.
Commenting on Turkey's role in the Karabakh conflict in an interview with Russian media, Medvedev noted that it is a very important partner for Russia, very close to Azerbaijan, and "this factor cannot be ignored."
"We have a productive dialogue with them - the president of our country constantly communicates with the president [of Turkey Recep Tayyip] Erdogan on this topic," he said. Medvedev recalled that earlier it had been "decided to create a special control center for the general state of affairs, in which Turkish and Russian officials take part, and this is also an element of general stabilization."
"But I would not evaluate this as an element of some long-term policy or build one of the conspiracy theories here. We simply have to take into account the realities that exist in our region. And the realities are such that today this issue must be discussed with partners. from Turkey, "Medvedev said. At the same time, he called the filigree work of Russian President Vladimir Putin to normalize the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh in the fall of 2020.
In an interview with domestic media, he recalled the aggravation of the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia in 2016, adding that "then a map was prepared, but, unfortunately, the countries did not use it." All this, he said, "led to a new conflict, protracted, with a large number of victims."
"And it's very good that thanks to the work of the President of Russia - and this work was filigree, I watched this work one day, Vladimir Vladimirovich was in hour-long discussions between all the parties to this conflict - if not for his work, let's face it, this conflict could continue to this day, "- said Medvedev. He added that "this is a huge work, for which both Azerbaijan and Armenia should be very much grateful to the President of Russia."
After the "hot phase" of the conflict in the region was ended in November 2020, "the situation has generally calmed down, and this is the most important thing, people do not die and there are opportunities for development," said the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council, quoted by TASS.
He recalled that on January 11, 2021, "the presidents of the three countries met in Moscow and outlined ways to improve the economic situation." "This is also very important, because for people the devastation in which they live, in which they fell as a result of these hostilities, is the most painful, apart from the victims, of course. And now there are all opportunities for the development of economic cooperation, of course , while maintaining certain parameters of work, including the peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation, "he summed up.
