ArmInfo.Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan made a statement, noting that the process of demarcation of the borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan should be suspended or revised, as it is illegitimate.
Tatoyan, in particular, noted: "The process of border demarcation is carried out with gross violation of human rights and the principle of the rule of law. Such a demarcation of borders will not contribute to the establishment of peace in the region, moreover, on the contrary, promotes incitement of hatred between the Armenian and Azerbaijani peoples. This process undermines the international foundations of the human rights system.
The process of defining the state borders of Armenia is taking place under the threat of war. The presidents of Azerbaijan and Turkey threaten the people of Armenia with genocide and ethnic cleansing. The leadership of Azerbaijan, following Ilham Aliyev, insults the dignity of Armenian citizens and provokes interethnic enmity. In the course of border demarcation, there are no professional approaches, and instead, unacceptable mechanical approaches like GPS are used, "Tatoyan stressed.
The Ombudsman noted that the rights of residents of Gegharkunik and Syunik regions were grossly violated. "The security of Armenia's borders is under threat, but that's not all. There are armed people near the civilians of the border areas who threaten their safety; this is a violation of human rights. Moreover, residents of these regions do not have access to pastures and other agricultural land that they have used for many years. It was these lands that were their source of existence. We should find ways out of this situation, and the sooner the better, "concluded Tatoyan.
