ArmInfo. Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan received the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Armenia Nicholas Schemers. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Justice of Armenia.
The Minister noted a qualitatively new stage in bilateral relations between the countries after the 2018 Velvet Revolution and welcomed the decision of the Netherlands to open an embassy in Armenia. Rustam Badasyan expressed confidence that the existing potential in the field of justice will be realized during the Ambassador's tenure.
The Minister of Justice of Armenia also highly appreciated the petitions recently approved by the Dutch parliament to impose sanctions against the leaders of Azerbaijan and Turkey for the war crimes committed in Artsakh. In this context, Rustam Badasyan stressed: "The Netherlands demonstrated how democracy really works when human life and human rights are under threat."
In turn, Schemers outlined the priorities in the direction of which there is the prospect of cooperation: the rule of law, strengthening of democracy.
Minister Badasyan presented to the Ambassador of the Netherlands the roadmap of judicial reforms, already recorded achievements and highlighted the assistance of 9 million euros provided by the European Union to the Armenian government for the implementation of reforms. During the meeting, the sides also discussed the possibilities of deepening cooperation in the field of probation and the penitentiary system. The parties reached an agreement on the development of cooperation.
