ArmInfo. Armenian President Armen Sarkissian sent a telegram of condolences to Uruguayan President Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou in connection with the death of former President Tabare Vazquez.
In his message, the President of Armenia noted that Tabare Vazquez was known for his unshakable devotion to his homeland and great responsibility. "By consistent and purposeful work, Tabare Vazquez made a significant contribution to the development and strengthening of the Armenian-Uruguayan friendly relations," Armen Sarkissian's telegram says.
Former Uruguayan President Tabare Vazquez died on December 6 at the age of 80. Vazquez, who himself was an oncologist, announced in August 2019 that he had been diagnosed with a malignant tumor. Despite medical treatment, including radiation therapy, he continued to serve as president until March 1, 2020. Then he handed over the administration of the country to the new President Luis Lacalle Pou. During his political career, Vazquez held the presidency twice. He ruled Uruguay from 2005 to 2010 and from 2015 to 2020.
