ArmInfo. Head of the Supreme Judicial Council Ruben Vardazaryan commented on his appeal to the judges, which was regarded as a political statement. During a press conference, Vardazaryan stressed that the statement was assessed incorrectly and, on the contrary, it called on the judges to be apolitical.
To note, on November 15, Head of the Supreme Judicial Council made an appeal to the country's judges. Vardazaryan noted that he himself vowed before the people of Armenia to fulfill his judicial duties honestly, guided by the Constitution and laws of the country. With the same appeal, he addressed his colleagues, urging them to carry out their mission, guided by the Constitution and laws, and to administer justice with a high degree of responsibility. "We are obliged to keep our oath, which we made to the people, and do our job, not succumbing to political pressure and influence. Remember, no one from the government or the opposition has the right to interfere in our activities. Any such intervention should meet with a sharp rebuff, including from my side. All such cases will be subject to investigation, "Vardazaryan concluded.
At a press conference, Vardazaryan stressed that in his statement he also called on the judges not to give in to pressure and warned that otherwise, if the judge makes a political decision, the Head of the Supreme Judicial Council will personally strictly react to it. Therefore, Vardazaryan is surprised by the fact that his appeal is interpreted by the authorities in a political light, since, on the contrary, he called on judges to be apolitical. "It is very important for me that the judicial system is out of politics," the Head of the Supreme Judicial Council noted.
To recall, on December 15 Ruben Vardazaryan made an appeal to the judges for the simple reason that he wanted to give an answer to the "shameful question for judges": Are we judges who whine under the walls, or are we professionals? This phrase was previously voiced by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who stated that there are "judges who whine under the walls" in Armenia. He was referring to the judges who, in his opinion, issue unfair judgments end carry out the orders of the former elite who have formed the opposition movement.
