ArmInfo. Human Rights Defender of Armenia appealed to international structures in connection with the "Welcome to Azerbaijan" signboard installed on the Goris- Kapan highway in Syunik region. Ombudsman of Armenia Arman Tatoyan announced this on his Facebook page.
Tatoyan noted that the installation of a signboard by Azerbaijanis with a map of this country caused deep concern in Goris, Vorotan and a number of other peaceful settlements. The same applies to the installation of Azerbaijani flags on this section of the road, as well as in the area of the village of Vorotan.
"Residents of these settlements sent alarms to the office of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia regarding their lives, physical safety and integrity, property rights and other vital rights. The warnings stated that this was a gross violation of their rights. The staff of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia immediately launched a detailed investigation. The territory of Azerbaijan on this map includes a significant part of the Syunik region and some other settlements of Armenia.
The establishment of this sign is reprehensible. Azerbaijan's goal is to cause panic among the local population. This step is aimed at intimidating the residents of the border regions of Armenia, taking into account the torture, ethnic cleansing and other war crimes that the Azerbaijani armed forces have carried out against Armenia since September 2020. Such steps are especially worthy of condemnation against the background of the state policy of propaganda of the Armenian genocide and anti-Armenianism in Azerbaijan, as well as the open call for war against Armenia by prominent Azerbaijanis. These calls have received public approval in this country. The staff recorded the necessary evidence>, the |Ombudsman's Office said in a statement.
