ArmInfo. Demands for the resignation of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan have lost all meaning. Head of the ruling faction from the "My Step" bloc Lilit Makunts stated this on December 28 at an extraordinary sitting of the National Assembly of Armenia.
According to her, everyone who wants a change of power should sit at the negotiating table as soon as possible and discuss when and how the early parliamentary elections should be held. "If the opposition is seeking a change of power, then this is a legal way for this," Makunts stressed.
In turn, secretary of the parliamentary faction from the opposition Prosperous Armenia party Arman Abovyan reminded of the intentions of the ruling bloc to dismiss Naira Zohrabyan from the post of chair of the parliamentary commission for the protection of human rights and public relations. According to him, if the authorities succeed in this, then, thereby, once again the Constitution of the country will be violated. According to the law, the MP continued, no one has the right to dismiss a MP from the post on the basis of his or her statements. "This is enshrined in the Constitution and laws, and now the MPs from the power, once again, want to break the law," Abovyan stressed.
According to him, foreign parliamentarians are also watching the Zohrabyan case, who can bring the case to international publicity. The faction considers this issue to be political persecution of Naira Zohrabyan by Nikol Pashinyan.
"The faction will not take part in this farce," Arman Abovyan stated. It should be reminded that earlier Naira Zohrabyan called the electorate that brought Nikol Pashinyan and his team to power "rubbish".
According to the MPs from the ruling bloc, such insults to citizens are incompatible with the status of a MP, so Zohrabyan, at least, should not lead the parliamentary committee.
