ArmInfo.Today, Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the possibility of holding early parliamentary elections in the country in 2021.
On his Facebook page, Pashinyan noted that it has now become obvious that the opposition protest demanding his resignation did not receive popular support. "The opposition had every opportunity to enlist the support of the population around its demand. It has huge financial, media and organizational resources, it has ample opportunities for organizing rallies and protests, but it not only failed to take advantage of popular support, but also the number of it supporters decreased to a minimum, and square's processes began to fade, '' Pashinyan stressed.
He also noted that: "no one can say that we retained power by brute force. On the contrary, we are accused of being too soft".
All this, according to the head of government, does not in any way change the commitment of his team and his personal, to answer to the people. "I do not cling to the prime minister's chair, but I also cannot disrespect the authorities given to me by the people, the post of prime minister," Pashinyan noted.
The future fate of the country's political leadership, this position should be decided by the people through their free expression of will, and he, as the Prime Minister of Armenia, considers himself the guarantor of this free expression of will. "
I am also ready to resign as Prime Minister if the people decide. And I can leave the post of the Prime Minister solely by the decision of the people. And I am also ready to continue to lead the Republic of Armenia in this difficult time in case of confirmation of the people's trust, "the Prime Minister wrote.
As Pashinyan stressed, all these questions can be answered in only one way - to hold early parliamentary elections. "Based on the above, I invite parliamentary and interested extra-parliamentary forces to consultations on the holding of early parliamentary elections in the country in 2021," Pashinyan wrote.
