ArmInfo. The specialists of the International Mine Action Center of the Ministry of Defense of Russia continue work on demining the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh. Engineering units of the Russian peacekeeping forces are completing the clearance of the northern outskirts of Stepanakert.
According to the press service of the RF Ministry of Defense on December 23, during the operation, engineering units of the Russian peacekeeping forces in Nagorno-Karabakh cleared 260 hectares of terrain, about 100 kilometers of roads, 434 housing construction. More than 8.6 thousand explosive objects were discovered and neutralized.
In the course of demining and clearing the territory from explosive devices in Nagorno-Karabakh, Russian peacekeepers use modern robotic systems that allow maintaining a high rate of demining in mountainous terrain and worsening weather.
Discovered explosive devices and unexploded ammunition are removed and destroyed at a specially equipped landfill. Ammunition that cannot be evacuated is destroyed on site with all necessary security measures in place. In accordance with the agreements specified in the joint statement of the President of the Russian Federation, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, from 00:00 Moscow time on November 10 this year, a complete ceasefire and all hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh have been declared. With the assistance of Russian peacekeepers in the areas affected by the war, the restoration of vital engineering communications continues.
