ArmInfo.Single opposition candidate for the post of Prime Minister of Armenia Vazgen Manukyan made today a demand to Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan to stop the process of delimiting the borders of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Manukyan emphasizes that the processes of delimitation and demarcation are not provided for by the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020. The starting point of the truce and the cessation of all hostilities envisaged by the first paragraph of this statement is that the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia stop at the positions taken at the time of the adoption of the statement.
Consequently, according to Manukyan, none of the provisions of the statement is the basis for changing the borders. The opposition candidate noted that it is clear that these issues were left for further negotiations, given their comprehensive and complex nature. Taking into account the existing international experience, as well as the experience of delimiting the borders of Armenia-Georgia and Georgia-Azerbaijan, this process is carried out as a result of negotiations between interdepartmental commissions formed by the states, requires the ratification of the border in the legislative bodies of the two states. Until the completion of these processes, the Republic of Armenia must maintain the borders in the pre-war period.
Any maps, especially GPS data, are not a legal act and cannot be the basis for demarcation if it contradicts the demarcation approved by the higher authorities.
Until the completion of the aforementioned processes, the Republic of Armenia must maintain its borders, which it had before the war.
"We demand to immediately stop the process of alienation of territories, which violates the rights and vital interests of residents of border settlements, and we call on the state bodies involved in this process not to carry out instructions that contradict not only our state interests, but also the trilateral statement signed on November 9 and international practice," Manukyan's statement said. The statement also notes that the processes taking place in the Syunik region of Armenia and the policy pursued by the Pashinyan government show that the country is not immune from such dangers in Vayots Dzor, Gegharkunik and Tavush regions. This means that we must get rid of these authorities as soon as possible, make every effort to ensure the peace and security of our country. " The delay could of cost us our state," Manukyan stressed.
