ArmInfo. Within the framework of a working visit to Syunik region, Minister of Defense of Armenia Vagharshak Harutyunyan held a meeting with the leaders of a number of communities in the region.
As the press service of the RA Ministry of Defense reports, the meeting participants presented their concerns to the Minister of Defense about the difficult situation in the region in connection with the adjustment of the border. The community leaders reported that due to the border changes, a number of settlements will be targeted by the enemy, including the regional center Kapan.
The Minister of Defense noted that the clarification of the border takes place in the presence of high- ranking officers from both sides, that not a single meter of the territory of Armenia will be surrendered. It was emphasized that these areas will be controlled by Russian border guards, with whom an agreement has already been reached, which will create additional guarantees for strengthening the security system.
Vagharshak Harutyunyan noted that a whole range of measures is being taken to ensure the security of these zones, in particular, new military units are being formed, new infrastructures are being created, and this process will be continuous.
To note, yesterday, the residents of the region held a rally, blocking the roads, and thereby expressing their dissatisfaction with the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. Mayor of Kapan Gevorg Parsyan joined the protesters. "It is necessary to understand what should be the next steps to ensure security? To say that border guards will be standing here is not enough," he said.
