ArmInfo.Former secretary of the Artsakh Security Council Samvel Babayan stated that an official investigation should be launched in connection with the war in Artsakh. Babayan told about this in an interview with 1in.am.
Babayan denied rumors that Armenia did not send weapons to Artsakh. "Armenia gave us everything it had. We were given the "Tor" air defense system, as well as the "Buk" air defense system. However, some air defense systems were damaged, and they should have been repaired. Russia did not give us weapons, for obvious reasons, we had to buy these weapons ourselves, "Babayan said.
He also revealed the details of the capture of the city of Shushi by the enemy from Azerbaijan. Babayan noticed that there were two battalions that were supposed to protect the roads leading to Shushi. According to him, we had rather small resources, but the enemy did not have any special resources either. The former head of the Security Council noted that if the Armenian battalions carried out the designated operation, the enemy's road to Shushi would be cut off. Babayan stressed that Pashinyan is being accused of not stopping the war, but according to him, at a certain stage Azerbaijan agreed to stop the war only if Shushi surrendered, which neither Armenia nor Artsakh agreed to.
Then Babayan talked about the operation to defend Shushi itself, which had failed. "We presented the situation to the leaders of the battalions, presented them with an action plan near the village of Shosh. It was on November 5. The operation was supposed to start at 6 a.m., however, at 2 a.m. they called me and said that the battalions did not want to carry out the instructions given to them, "the former head of the Artsakh Security Council said. Babayan noticed that the discipline was at a very low level, that is, everyone could decide for himself whether he would fulfill the task assigned to him.
"As it turned out later, the head of the Martakert region went to the village of Vank, where he held talks with the soldiers stationed there. They stated that they want to stay and defend their own territory, and do not want to go to another territory. After that, this leader said that in that case he would discuss this issue with the President of Artsakh, "the former head of the Security Council noted, adding that as it turned out later, he was authorized to conduct such actions. Babayan noted that the whole country was obliged to help Artsakh Defense Minister Jalal Harutyunyan, however, on the contrary, he was hindered. "There were also sabotage groups that met with the officers and said that this was not their war, and they did not intend to take part in hostilities. Now is not the time to make assessments, all of this should be the subject of investigation. Those guilty must be identified and they must be punished, "he said. Babayan also noted that representatives of Azerbaijan tried to kill Jalal Harutyunyan and there was no attempt on his life. "Rumors that this was done by the Armenian side do not correspond to reality," Babayan said.
