ArmInfo. On the facts of illegal acquisition of weapons and ammunition in Karabakh and their transportation to Armenia, 50 criminal cases were initiated, 12 persons were charged. This is stated in the message of the RA General Prosecutor's Office.
According to the source, in the period from September 27 (the beginning of Azerbaijan's aggression against Artsakh) to December 1, 2020, 163 cases of illegal acquisition, sale, transportation of weapons, ammunition, explosives were recorded. Criminal cases were initiated on 50 cases. As of December 1, all criminal cases were at the stage of preliminary investigation, within the framework of which the necessary investigative and operational-search measures are being taken to fully clarify the circumstances of the acquisition of weapons, to identify other persons involved in criminal actions. As of December 1, preparation of materials on 52 cases was ongoing.
According to the investigation dossiers weapons, ammunition and explosives were acquired at various defensive positions of Karabakh and were intended or used for military operations against the enemy. Weapons and ammunition, mainly <AK> submachine guns, grenades, edged weapons, were illegally exported to Armenia by separate groups with the consent of several persons. Most of these weapons and ammunition were found mainly by law enforcement officers at various sections of the Stepanakert-Goris highway, as well as as a result of operational search activities.
As of December 1, 2020, 12 people are accused of committing these criminal cases.
The RA Prosecutor General's Office calls on citizens who illegally acquired weapons and ammunition to voluntarily hand them over to the RA Police. In this case, they will be exempted from criminal liability. Moreover, a responsible civil attitude will significantly reduce the criminal risks in the country, prevent or reduce the commission of possible crimes with the use of firearms.
