ArmInfo. Ryanair, as well as a number of other companies, temporarily suspended flights to Armenia due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is stated in the clarification of the RA Civil Aviation Committee in connection with the reports on the termination of flights by low- cost airlines to Armenia.
According to the source, Ryanair has filed an application with the Civil Aviation Committee for 2020-2021 for a number of European destinations. In particular, it was planned that during the winter navigation period, flights will be operated from the end of October this year to the end of March 2021. However, in connection with the second wave of the pandemic, which led to a worsening of the situation both in the South Caucasus region and in the European Union, the airline announced that it refrains from flying during this period of time, expressing its readiness to resume flights in 2021, during summer navigation if the pandemic situation improves.
The Committee also stressed that in connection with the second wave of the pandemic, restrictions on entry into the territory of the European Union were introduced. In particular, the rules for citizens of many countries have been tightened, and the restrictions for residents of certain countries have become stricter. "Once again, we inform you that the airline has never announced the termination of flights to Armenia, it is ready to resume them in case the situation with the coronavirus in Armenia improves and the existing restrictions are lifted," the statement said.
