ArmInfo.The war could have been stopped within the first days, but the leadership of Armenia became hostage to its own lies spread. This opinion was expressed by the first  president of the NKR and the second president of Armenia Robert  Kocharian in an interview with the 5th channel. He expressed his  conviction that this was possible.

Developing his thought, Kocharian stressed that he himself, being on  the second or third day of the outbreak of hostilities, intended to  share his thoughts on what to do to suspend them with Artsakh  President Arayik Harutyunyan. However, the visit to Harutyunyan of  the ex-President of Artsakh Bako Sahakyan to organize such a meeting  did not yield results, as Harutyunyan feared that he would be  misunderstood and this meeting could have negative consequences for  Artsakh. Speaking about the behavior of Arayik Harutyunyan, Kocharyan  expressed bewilderment that he was showing off on the front line,  drinking coffee there, but "it was necessary to work seriously, and  not to cock."

According to Kocharian, the Armenian Prime Minister was obliged to  stop the war the next day after he received a report from the General  Staff that the war could not be won, that the forces were too  unequal. He could accept "Lavrov's plan" and stop the war, even if  the plan involved the return of territories. Then the Azerbaijanis in  the southern sector of the front advanced only 3-4 km. , and on our  side, human losses amounted to about 500 people. But the war was  stopped on the 44th day with heavy casualties and losses in the  worst-case scenario, and even without any prospects for the status of  Nagorno-Karabakh. This, as noted by Kocharian, does not fit in his  brain, why it could not have been done on day 4, since the report  from the General Staff had already spoken about the impossibility of  opposing the enemy's forces.

Reacting to Pashinyan's explanation that in that case he would be  called a traitor, Kocharyan stressed that the explanation for this  behavior lies in the fact that the Armenian leadership has become  hostage to its own spread of lies about victories, about the seizure  of territories - Getashen, Shahumyan. These false messages were  disseminated by an official representative of the Ministry of Defense  in military uniform, but they were written not by the military, but  in a completely different place. "Imagine if the people knew what was  really going on, if they knew that they are losing the war, that the  forces are not equal: Then such a decision would be justified, the  people would understand that the decision is correct and timely. But  the lie gave rise to a new lie, and the commander-in-chief led  himself into the trap of this lie, from which he could not get out.  You (Nikola Pashiyana - Ed.) Will be called a traitor, since the  propaganda machine spoke of victories, and suddenly these victories  are interrupted by an agreement with certain concessions: It was a  fairy tale that had nothing to do with the truth, "said the second  president.

Answering the relevant question, Kacharyan noted that if he were  president, the war would not have started, there would not have been  diplomatic, as he put it, nonsense that made the war inevitable and  Aliyev would never have dared to start it. "Now Aliyev is a cock, he  has the right to do so, but if his father (Heydar Aliyev - Ed.) Were  alive, and he was an intelligent person, he would pull his ears, say  - calm down," Kocharyan noted. But the problem is that the  Azerbaijanis saw who they were dealing with in Armenia. In this  regard, Kocharian drew parallels with the time of Elchibey, who led  Azerbaijan during the first war. "When Elchibey was changed for  several days, I was not in the mood, because Elchibey was just a  gift, because they were worried that a person with good  organizational skills might come. It was those mistakes that led to  the victorious war, "Kocharyan noted.
