ArmInfo. The court rejected the request of Gagik Khachatryan's lawyers for permission to leave for Germany for medical treatment. Lawyer of the former Minister of Finance and the Committee of State Revenues of Armenia Gagik Khachatryan Yerem Sargsyan announced this.
Sargsyan stated that the court noted that Khachatryan can receive treatment in Armenia, however, during the consultation the best specialists of the country agreed that the former minister needs a surgical intervention, which is impossible to carry out in Armenia.
The lawyer noted that Khachatryan did not take part in the court hearing for health reasons, as he experiences severe pain when he is in one position for a long time.
"The European Court of Human Rights demanded that Armenia take measures to resolve the issue of Khachatrian's treatment. If this decision is not made, the ECHR can initiate an investigation into the torture," Sargsyan said.
To note, Khachatryan was charged under 308 (Abuse of official powers, which through negligence led to grave consequences - Ed.), 179 (Appropriation or embezzlement on an especially large scale - Ed.), 38-179 (Assistance in appropriation - Ed. ) and 314 (Official forgery - Ed.) articles of the RA Criminal Code.
