ArmInfo. RA Foreign Minister Ara Ayvazyan and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres during a telephone conversation discussed the humanitarian situation in Artsakh as a result of the Turkish-Azerbaijani aggression and its consequences for the region.
As reported by the press service of the RA MFA, the parties touched upon the current humanitarian crisis and the steps taken to overcome it. In this regard, Ayvazyan especially emphasized the importance of involving international bodies and, first of all, the relevant UN bodies for work on the ground.
The Armenian Foreign Minister also pointed to the importance of ensuring conditions for the return of displaced Karabakh Armenians and the need to take steps to protect their rights. Ayvazyan provided Guterres with comprehensive information about torture and other acts of violence against prisoners of war and civilians who are under the jurisdiction of Azerbaijan.
The sides mutually indicated the importance of strict observance of international humanitarian law, human rights norms and respect for the historical and cultural heritage of Artsakh.
