ArmInfo. The Russian inter-governmental delegation held comprehensive negotiations in Yerevan. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told this to reporters following the visit.
According to him, the main task here is the clear implementation of the joint agreement of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia of November 9 on the cessation of hostilities around Nagorno-Karabakh and on the implementation of a peacekeeping operation, on carrying out humanitarian actions in support of the civilian population.
Lavrov recalled that it was universally recognized that this statement was an uncontested way of resolving the situation, which a few weeks ago acquired a very acute character. "It was unanimously emphasized that attempts to question this statement not only domestically, but also abroad are unacceptable. We reaffirmed our determination to do everything to ensure that these statements continue to work," the Russian Foreign Minister said.
At the same time, he stated that at the meetings held, the Armenian leadership (Prime Minister and President) stressed that this agreement helped to solve serious problems, helped to save lives, and declared their full commitment to their implementation in the future.
"We highly appreciated the work of the Russian peacekeepers, as well as the decree of the President of the Russian Federation on the creation of an interdepartmental center for humanitarian response, which is already starting to work. We also talked about current bilateral affairs, including plans, as soon as the restrictions due to coronavirus infection end, to hold the 20th meeting of the Mega-Governmental Council for Trade and Economic Cooperation, an interregional forum and other events, including on the parliamentary line, " Russian Foreign Minister said.
At the same time, he noted that during the meetings special attention was paid to international cooperation, the need to mobilize the international community to assist in the implementation of the agreements of November 9. He once again recalled that the International Committee of the Red Cross is already active in the region and once again pointed out the interest in the activity of the relevant UN structures - UNDP, UNESCO, UNICEF, the Office of the UN Commissioner for Refugees.
Lavrov noted that the Russian side expects that UNESCO will be more active in this ancient region on the issue of preserving the cultural, historical and religious heritage, more than in Syria.
"The Armenian leadership confirmed the course towards the development and deepening of allied relations with the Russian Federation. We view our visit as confirmation of support for the efforts that are being made in Armenia to ensure stability in society, and as a manifestation of our support for the course that the Armenian leadership is pursuing in defending the statement from November 9, which made it possible to end the bloodshed and move on to the processes of a peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict, "Lavrov summed up.
