According to the Press Service of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, in Yerevan, Sergei Shoigu met with the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and the head of the republic's defense department Vagharshak Harutyunyan.
During the meetings, a wide range of topical topics related to maintaining the regime of cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh and the implementation of the provisions of the trilateral statement of the President of the Russian Federation, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia and of November 10, 2020 were discussed.
Russian Defense Minister General of the Army Sergey Shoigu provided extensive information to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Armenian Defense Minister Vagharshak Aratyunan on the progress of the peacekeeping operation in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, the deployment of Russian peacekeeping contingent units and observation posts on the ground, and the organization of monitoring the cessation of hostilities , as well as solving humanitarian problems.
"We flew with specific tasks. You know that after the signed trilateral statement, we transferred a peacekeeping contingent. During these days we have stood up practically throughout the territory of Karabakh. 23 posts have been set up. We control the road to Stepanakert. We ensure the return of refugees. Now a peaceful life has been established. And from our side, the main task is to prevent bloodshed. This is the task that our Supreme Commander-in-Chief set before us, "Sergei Shoigu said.
In turn, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan thanked Russia for restoring peace in Nagorno-Karabakh. "During the war, we always felt the support of the Russian Federation. Times were not easy, but now the military-political situation has changed," Nikol Pashinyan said.
