The newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ara Ayvazyan held a telephone conversation with the head of the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov. The press service of the RA MFA reports. According to the source, the parties expressed their mutual readiness to continue developing the Armenian- Russian allied relations in all sectors, including regional security.
The foreign ministers also discussed the situation in Artsakh and the region. In this context, the parties touched upon efforts to resolve the humanitarian situation in Artsakh, as well as the meeting of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs held in Moscow the day before. The interlocutors also discussed the activities of the Russian peacekeeping mission in Artsakh and questions on the practical application of the joint trilateral statement of November 10. At the same time, an exchange of views took place on the forthcoming schedule of the Armenian-Russian cooperation.
It should be reminded that on November 16, Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan resigned.
On November 18, by the decree of President Armen Sarkissian, Ara Ayvazyan was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, who since mid-October served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The main focus of Ayvazyan's diplomatic work in recent years has been the countries of Latin America. Since March 2017, Ayvazyan has been the Armenian Ambassador to Mexico, Costa Rica, Brazil and Cuba. Prior to that, Ayvazyan specialized in the Baltic States, being the ambassador to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
