ArmInfo. An attempt to assassinate Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan by his political opponents was prevented in Armenia, the Republic's National Security Service reported.
The message on the special service website says that a resident of Syunik region, a certain A. M., "having anti-government views, disagreeing with the foreign and domestic policies of the prime minister," kept a large amount of weapons, ammunition and explosives at home.
According to the security service, the man reached an agreement with anti-government politicians in Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh and their supporters "on the use of illegally stored weapons and ammunition to seize power, terminate the activities of the Prime Minister by illegally depriving him of his life and usurping the powers of the government." Preparing especially grave crimes were disclosed and suppressed by the National Security Service, "the statement says.
The NSS noted that leader of the Homeland party, former director of the NSS Arthur Vanetsyan, former MP and ex-head of the Republican Party of Armenia faction Vahram Baghdasaryan, member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation A.A., as well as the commander of the Sisian Volunteer Detachment A. M. were detained on suspicion.
It is indicated that as a result of the searches, the security forces found a large number of weapons and ammunition, in particular machine guns, grenade launchers, rifles with telescopic sight, cartridges, fuses, detonators, fuses. Opposition actions have been taking place in Yerevan for several days now demanding Pashinyan's resignation due to the signing of a ceasefire agreement in Karabakh.
