ArmInfo.Russia's Defense Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu held his second telephone conversation with Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar in 24 hours. The parties discussed the settlement of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, the Russian Defense Ministry told reporters on Wednesday, TASS reports.
" Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu, today held telephone conversation with Minister of Defense of the Turkish Republic, Hulusi Akar," the military department noted.
As the Ministry of Defense specified, Shoigu discussed with his Turkish counterpart "the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict."
Yesterday, he had already have telephone conversation with Akar. Then the parties discussed the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as in Syria. On November 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint statement on the complete cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh. As, in particular, the Russian leader said, the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides will stop at their taken positions, and Russian peacekeepers will be deployed in the region. In total, 1,960 servicemen, 90 armored personnel carriers, 380 units of automobile and special equipment will be deployed to deploy the peacekeeping contingent in the zone of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. According to the RF Ministry of Defense, the core of the contingent will be units of the 15th separate motorized rifle brigade (peacekeeping) of the Central Military District. As the ministry specified, in order to monitor compliance with the agreements on the cessation of hostilities, Russian observation posts will be set up along the Contact Line in Nagorno-Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor connecting Armenia and Nagorno- Karabakh. The command of the peacekeeping operation will be located in the Stepanakert area.
