ArmInfo.RA Defense Minister David Tonoyan received commander of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, Lieutenant-General Rustam Muradov, who arrived in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone to control the ceasefire.
As reported by the press service of the RA Defense Ministry, Tonoyan thanked for the rapid formation of the mission of the Russian peacekeeping contingent and expressed his readiness to provide comprehensive assistance during the mission.
During the meeting, issues related to the organization and implementation of the mission by the peacekeeping unit were discussed.
To note, Head of the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces Sergei Rudskoy earlier informed, that sixteen observation posts will be set up along the Contact Line in Nagorno- Karabakh.
"In order to control compliance with the agreements between Armenia and Azerbaijan, it is planned to set up 16 observation posts in the areas of responsibility" North "and" South ". They will be deployed along the Line of Contact of the sides in Nagorno-Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor, "Rudskoy said. These posts, according to him, "are entrusted with the task of collecting information on cases of violation of the ceasefire, promptly bringing this data to the command of the peacekeeping forces, as well as maintaining the safety of transit traffic and suppressing illegal actions against civilians." "This will contribute to an early transition to a peaceful life and the return of refugees," he said.
To carry out the peacekeeping mission, almost two thousand servicemen, 90 armored personnel carriers and 380 vehicles will be transferred to the conflict zone. The core of the contingent is made up of units of the 15th separate motorized rifle brigade of the Central Military District. The command of the peacekeeping forces of the Russian Federation, which will manage the peacekeeping operation in Nagorno-Karabakh, is deployed in Stepanakert. A complete ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh began at midnight on November 10.
