A joint statement by the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia on the complete cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh will help stop the loss of life and may become a step towards a comprehensive settlement in the region. This, as reported by TASS, is said in a statement released on Tuesday by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.
"I welcome the cessation of hostilities in and around Nagorno-Karabakh. The Russian-mediated ceasefire signed by Armenia and Azerbaijan on Tuesday will prevent further loss of life and may be a step towards a comprehensive settlement of the conflict.
Now further negotiations will be required to guarantee a stable settlement, "the statement says." The European Union continues to support the existing format of negotiations within the OSCE Minsk Group and is ready to contribute to efforts to implement agreements for the peaceful and prosperous development of the entire South Caucasus region, " Borrel.
