ArmInfo. Reliable sources from the Syrian Observanory (SOHR) have confirmed that a new batch of nearly 230 Syrian militants have arrived in Azerbaijan to participate in the ongoing hostilities in the Nagorno-Karabakh region on Azerbaijan's side against Armenia.
Meanwhile, at least 22 fighters fled the fierce fighting in Azerbaijan and returned to Syria. This is reported by the portal https://www.syriahr.com/.
According to the source, when a new batch of militants arrived in Azerbaijan, the total number of Syrian militants involved in the hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh increased to at least 2,580, of which 342 fighters returned to Syria after canceling their payments. On the other hand, Syrian Observatory activists have documented the deaths of nine Syrian mercenaries in the fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh in the past few hours, bringing the total death toll among Turkish-backed factions since the Turkish government sent them to the front lines in late September to at least 240 people, including 183 fighters, whose bodies were delivered to Syria, and the rest of the bodies remain in Azerbaijan. Moreover, Armenian forces have captured at least three Syrian militants.
The publication notes that Turkey is struggling to recruit more militants to be sent to the Nagorno- Karabakh region, since most of the militants refuse to fight along with the Azerbaijani forces due to the sectarian factor and large human losses among the mercenaries. Some of the militants sent to Azerbaijan did not even know that the Azerbaijani forces belonged to the Shiite community, and the revelation of this fact prompted many militants to return to Syria immediately after they learned about it, not to mention the harsh conditions of the fighting.
