Armenia`s Ambassador: Yerevan turned to Moscow for help, not to the  CSTO

The appeal of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan to Vladimir Putin concerns consultations on security within the framework of bilateral  agreements, there is no question of involving the CSTO. Vardan  Toghanyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the  Republic of Armenia to the RF, stated this in an interview with RIA  Novosti.

"We are talking about an appeal to the President of the Russian  Federation, referring to our bilateral agreement," the ambassador  said. It should be noted that the CSTO confirmed that Yerevan did not  turn to them for help. "At the moment, the CSTO secretariat has not  received any appeals from the Armenian side," said CSTO press  secretary Vladimir Zainetdinov.

Today, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan appealed to Russian  President Vladimir Putin with a request to hold immediate  consultations in order to determine the type and amount of assistance  that the Russian Federation can provide to the Republic of Armenia to  ensure its security, based on the allied relations between Armenia  and Russia and Article 2 <Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and  Mutual Assistance> dated August 29, 1997.

The Russian Foreign Ministry reacted to this appeal of Armenia,  stressing that Russia will fulfill its obligations under the  agreement as soon as the clashes spread to the territory of Armenia.  -l-
