ArmInfo. The Armenian Ministry of Defense presented factual evidence of the use of phosphorus weapons by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces in Karabakh.
Thus, the Spokesperson of the RA Ministry of Defense Shushan Stepanyan publishing the corresponding video on her Facebook page, in particular, wrote:
"In the zone of the Azerbaijani-Artsakh conflict, the enemy forces used phosphorus weapons containing elements of chemical weapons, which is a gross violation of international humanitarian law, norms and principles of customary law, the Geneva Conventions, as well as the provisions stipulated by the relevant UN conventions and documents. In addition to damage to the Armenian forces, are these actions aimed at causing massive forest fires and creating real threats of an ecological catastrophe in this territory?
The prohibition on the above actions and the rights and values protected as a result are, first of all, in the field of customary law, and the use of such weapons, which does not make it possible to clearly distinguish between facilities of military and civil significance, at the same time is the cause of an environmental catastrophe and possible human losses and is military a crime. "
To note, in 1977, an additional protocol of the Geneva Convention was adopted, which in the course of hostilities finally banned the use of phosphorus in cases where civilians may become victims.
