ArmInfo. When the Azerbaijani armed forces fired at foreign journalists visiting Artsakh, Baku stated that to visit NKR it was necessary to ask permission from them. The Ombudsman of Armenia Arman Tatoyan stated this in the parliament at a meeting of the Standing Committee on Regional and Eurasian Integration.
Tatoyan stressed that this statement of Azerbaijan contradicts the principles of international law.
"The work of journalists in conflict zones, in this case in Artsakh, has a legitimate human rights value - to report the truth. Journalists have protection guarantees. They were in Artsakh in civilian clothes, with identification marks, they had nothing to do with the military, therefore Azerbaijan bears international responsibility for deciding to turn journalists into a target, "the Ombudsman emphasized.
