ArmInfo. On October 18, Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan had a telephone conversation with Canadian Foreign Minister Francois Philippe Champagne.
As reported by the RA MFA press service, the Foreign Ministers discussed the situation in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone after the large-scale aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan. Zohrab Mnatsakanyan especially emphasized the inhuman treatment committed as a result of war crimes by the Azerbaijani military, including attacks on the civilian population of Artsakh, life support facilities, religious buildings, cultural sites, as well as against Armenian prisoners of war.
Referring to the ceasefire agreements of October 10 and 17, the Armenian minister emphasized Azerbaijan's destructive policy of not fulfilling the agreements reached. The RA Foreign Minister confirmed Armenia's position on strengthening the ceasefire regime and peaceful settlement of the conflict. Welcoming the humanitarian ceasefire reached on 17 October, Francois-Philippe Champagne emphasized the need to maintain and enforce it, as well as introduce appropriate control mechanisms. Expressing support for the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, the Canadian Foreign Minister stressed the need for non-regional actors not to intervene in the conflict.
Minister Mnatsakanyan, in turn, highly appreciated the principled decision of the Canadian leadership to suspend the export of strategic goods to Turkey as part of the ongoing investigation. Zohrab Mnatsakanyan noted that only decisive and active efforts of the international community can oppose Turkey's expansionist policy.
