Israeli scientist orientalist confirms presence of Syrian mercenaries  in Azerbaijani troops

Elizaveta Tsurkova, PhD, orientalist, specialist on Syria, head of the Israeli contemporary journalism portal ReLevant, who is also involved in the protection of human rights in the Levant, posted on Twitter a video taken on the Karabakh  front by 23-year-old Syrian mercenary Mustafa Kanti.

According to Tsurkova, Mustafa was a rebel in the ranks of the Liwa  al-Tawhid group, fighting the Syrian government forces since the age  of 14. He later joined the military formations of Al-Jabhat  al-Shamiya, one of the remnants of al-Qaeda. In Karabakh, he was  recruited by an intermediary from the Khamza detachment, who take  part of the salary from the fighters>.

Tsurkova found out that Mustafa comes from the town of Haiyan in the  western countryside of Aleppo, which the Syrian army took during its  last offensive on Idlib in 2020. His family is now living in  displacement in Al-Atarib in extreme poverty.

"I spoke with relatives of several Syrian militants in Azerbaijan and  Libya. Everyone describes the immense poverty as the only reason why  these people signed up to participate in these wars in the service of  Turkey's geostrategic interests, Tsurkova writes.
