ArmInfo. Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE PA) Giorgi Tsereteli called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to stop hostilities in the interests of the civilian population and resume negotiations for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh in accordance with OSCE principles and commitments. This is stated in a press release by the OSCE PA, TASS reports.
"We remain seriously concerned about reports of an increase in losses associated with the conflict, in particular the consequences for the local population, which, despite the obligation to protect civilians, continue to suffer from the ongoing hostilities," said Giorgi Tsereteli. "We fully support the call. the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs from France, Russia and the USA, as well as the presidents and foreign ministries of the respective countries to an unconditional ceasefire. "
The OSCE PA President also expressed concern over reports of the use of banned cluster bombs, noting that the OSCE PA adopted a resolution in 2008 calling on all participating States to ban the use, development, production, acquisition, stockpiling, storage or transfer of cluster munitions. Giorgi Tsereteli called on the parties to refrain from using these weapons and to fully comply with the requirements of international law for the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure.
"As a platform for dialogue, the OSCE PA remains ready to hold parliamentary talks at the request of the parties," added the organization's secretary general, Roberto Montella. "The parliamentary dialogue can play an important role in restoring communication lines when the negotiation process in the Minsk Group resumes, aimed at a peaceful conflict resolution ".
