ArmInfo. The diplomatic work to persuade the end of aggression against the Republic of Artsakh is complicated by the presence of a new factor - Turkey - a new major player in the South Caucasus - a circumstance that cannot be ignored. Artsakh Republic Foreign Minister Mais Mayilyan expressed this opinion at a press conference held in Stepanakert today.
Mayilyan stressed that the de facto tripartite alliance of the "rogue countries" of Azerbaijan and Turkey, as well as terrorist groups in the Middle East, is today opposed to the international community, which has expressed its point of view, calling for an end to hostilities and sit down at the negotiating table. This call is blatantly ignored by this alliance.
Mayilyan noted that diplomatic efforts should support the actions of the army to force the enemy to peace and vice versa. Therefore, it is necessary to restore the line of contact, which was fixed and reflected in all the documents of 1994 when the ceasefire agreement was signed and a truce was reached. Mayilyan stressed the futility of a military solution to the conflict, noting that it was Azerbaijan's violation of this line in 2016 that became the basis for unleashing a large-scale war. Therefore, Azerbaijan should not receive new territories today.
The head of the Nagorno-Karabakh Foreign Ministry stressed the important role of the leaders of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries - Russia, France, the United States, the UN Security Council and other countries and international organizations, calling for a ceasefire and peace talks. He stated that in the conditions when this tripartite alliance is opposed to the entire world community, the Republic of Artsakh today adopted a statement to the countries of the world to recognize the independence of Nagorno- Karabakh, with confidence that this step will serve as a mechanism for establishing peace in the region. Speaking about the position of the Russian Federation, thanks to the consistent position of which, according to Mayilyan, a ceasefire was established in 1994, and the war of 2016 was stopped, it continues to make great efforts towards the cessation of hostilities today. However, this new factor - the involvement of Turkey in the affairs of the South Caucasus - complicates the ability to convince Azerbaijan to stop hostilities and sit down at the negotiating table.
