ArmInfo. The war unleashed by Baku and Ankara created a favorable environment for the recognition of Artsakh and for the unrecognized republic's transition into the group of partially recognized states. Chief Researcher of the IMEMO RAS, President of the Scientific Society of Caucasian Studies Alexander Krylov expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
"Until now, Armenia has not recognized the independence of Artsakh considering possible problems in the international arena, complications in the negotiation process, negative reaction of the OSCE Minsk Group, aggravation of the situation in the conflict zone. However, the military actions initiated by Turkey and Azerbaijan put an end to all previous agreements on ceasefire. This completely destroyed the negotiation process on the peaceful settlement of the conflict, " he stressed.
Due to this very war initiated by Turkey and Azerbaijan, most of the obstacles to the recognition of Artsakh, according to the political scientist, have lost their relevance. At the same time, a more favorable situation was created for its transition to the category of partially recognized states: Abkhazia, South Ossetia, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Kosovo, etc.
According to Krylov's forecasts, the possibility of recognizing the independence of Artsakh will very soon become the subject of discussion of the National Assembly of Armenia. The optimal decision will be made based on the discussion and analysis of all the positive and negative consequences of such recognition.
At the same time, the Russian political scientist believes that the recognition of the independence of Artsakh can lead to the settlement of the conflict with Azerbaijan only if recognized by all UN members. At the same time, he noted with regret that the future prospects of the South Caucasus will most likely be determined by the results of the current war on the Karabakh front. Starting at 07:10 am on September 27, the settlements, as well as the military units of the Republic of Artsakh, were subjected to intensive artillery and rocket fire by the Azerbaijani army. After that, the enemy's motorized rifle and tank subunits launched an offensive in the northern and southeastern directions. At the moment, the units of the Artsakh army are fighting, repelling the attacks of the enemy. There are dozens of wounded among the peaceful population of Artsakh, three civilians.
The Defense Army lost 80 fighters. Losses of the enemy are not published, however, according to the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, their number reached 800. In one direction in Karvachar, the enemy's attack ended in the loss of 180 soldiers. Over the entire period of the offensive operation of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, the Artsakh Defense Army destroyed 72 drones, 7 helicopters and 1 aircraft. Also, 137 armored vehicles and 82 vehicles were knocked out.
