ArmInfo. The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled on Yerevan's request for interim measures in connection with the aggravation of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.
So, according to the message of the ECHR, received by ArmInfo, on September 29 a session on this issue was held, in which 7 judges took part.
"Considering that the current situation creates risks for a serious violation of the Convention, the ECHR decided to apply Article 39 of the rules of the court.
In order to prevent such violations and in accordance with rule 39, the Court called on Azerbaijan and Armenia to refrain from any measures, in particular military actions, which could entail violations of the rights of civilians enshrined in the Convention, including endangering their lives and health. and to comply with the obligations assumed under the Convention, especially with regard to article 2 (right to life) and article 3 (prohibition of torture and inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment) of the Convention. The court also invited both contracting parties to inform it as soon as possible about the measures taken to fulfill their obligations, "the ECAC decision says.
It is also noted that measures under Rule 39 of the Rules of Court are taken in connection with proceedings before the Court, without prejudice to any subsequent decisions on admissibility or merits. The communication also emphasizes that the Court will only grant such requests in exceptional cases where the applicants would otherwise have faced a real risk of irreversible harm.
As ArmInfo previously reported, on September 27, the Armenian representation at the ECHR reported that Yerevan had applied to the European Court of Human Rights with a request to apply interim measures against Azerbaijan in connection with the aggravation of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. Interim or interim measures means the prohibition of the defendant to take actions that may lead to the infliction of irreparable and at the same time substantial harm to the applicant or the protected interests of citizens. It also became known that Armenia presented today to the ECHR new facts about the shelling of settlements, civilian objects and the population by the Azerbaijani armed forces.
