ArmInfo. The operation of the Sotk gold mine, located in the Vardenis region of the Gegharkunik region of Armenia, was suspended on the very first day of the aggravation of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, on Sunday, September 27.
Ruzanna Grigoryan, a representative of Geopromining Gold (GPM Gold), told ArmInfo correspondent about this, answering the question about the correctness of the disseminated information that the territory of the mine was under fire from Azerbaijan.
The company representative noted that she did not have any military information and stressed that the decision of the company's management to suspend the operation of the mine, which is located near the border with Azerbaijan, was made in advance due to the need to ensure the safety of employees in the future.
It should be noted that the settlements of the Vardenis region of Armenia were shelled today by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. There are wounded among the civilian population, one person - an elderly woman - died. According to unverified information, one of the shells fell on the territory of the Sotk gold mine.
