Analyst: Negotiations triggered a new war for Aliyev

ArmInfo.Upcoming negotiations with Nikol Pashinyan became a trigger for Ilham Aliyev   initiating a new war. A similar opinion was expressed to ArmInfo By the Chairman of the Public Council of Armenia, analyst Stepan Safaryan.

"By and large, the negotiation process failed in 1997-98 with the  ouster of Artsakh from there. From this period until 2015, the  settlement process took on an imitation character, as the leaders of  Armenia and Azerbaijan discussed issues related to the third entity.  This serious diplomatic skirmish ended in a four-day war in April  2016. With the emergence of a new government in Armenia in 2018, an  attempt was made to resume negotiations, which, in general, failed  again, "he stressed.

In this light, Safaryan noted that very often it is negotiations that  theoretically lead to peace that introduce the leadership of a  particular country into the temptation to initiate military  adventures. In this context, the head of the OS recalled that the  mediators from the OSCE Minsk Group attempted to resume negotiations  in the conditions of Aliyev's authority, seriously tarnished by  Tavush. The latter, according to Safaryan, did not want to return to  the negotiating table with Nikol Pashinyan in a weakened state, not  only within Azerbaijan, but also in the negotiation process. The  result of which was the next military adventure, initiated by him on  September 27.

At the same time, Safaryan expressed his conviction in the  unsuccessful completion for Aliyev of this attempt to save his own  face through hundreds of new victims on both sides of the conflict.  According to his forecasts, the Armenian people will win solely  thanks to their own unity, the best manifestation of the national  potential. In this light, the analyst considers the high level of  unity with which volunteers are sent to defend their homeland to be  the most encouraging factor in this whole tragedy.

Such unity  is one of the most painful points of Aliyev, since he has already  begun to understand that Artsakh is his homeland. for all Armenians  in the world. Starting from 07:10 am on September 27, the settlements, as well as  the military units of the Republic of Artsakh, were subjected to  intensive artillery and rocket fire by the Azerbaijani army. After  that, the enemy's motorized rifle and tank subunits went over to the  offensive in the northern and southeastern directions. At the moment,  the units of the Artsakh army are fighting, repelling the attacks of  the enemy.  There are dozens of wounded among the peaceful population  of Artsakh, three civilians. The Defense Army lost 84 fighters. The  enemy's losses are not published, however, according to the Armenian  Defense Ministry, their number goes to hundreds. Over the entire  period of the offensive operation of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces,  the Artsakh Defense Army destroyed 50 drones, 4 helicopters and 1  aircraft.  Also, 80 units of armored vehicles and 82 units of  vehicles were knocked out.
