ArmInfo. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres calls on Yerevan and Baku to immediately stop fighting, reduce tensions and return to negotiations, said in a commentary by the official representative of the Secretary General of the Organization, Stephane Dujarric, quoted by RIA Novosti.
"The Secretary General is extremely concerned about the renewed resumption of hostilities along the line of contact in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. He condemns the use of force and regrets the loss of life and civilian casualties," the commentary said.
The Secretary General urges the parties to immediately cease hostilities, reduce tensions and immediately return to constructive negotiations, "Dujarrick said.
Also, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres will contact Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in connection with the latest escalation in the Nagorno- Karabakh zone.
"He (Guterres - editor's note) will hold talks with the President of Azerbaijan and with the Prime Minister of Armenia," Dujarrik said.
According to him, the Secretary General expresses his full support for the important role of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs and urges the parties to work closely with them to resume dialogue as soon as possible without preconditions.
